Tough as nails
Review by Douglas J Williams from Central Point , OR on 12/12/2010
I use this tire on a 2006 YZ 250 2 stroke. I ride only in the woods and will continue to buy this tire for the rear. It holds great on side hills and it loves to hill climb. This tire is a little heavy but that makes since due to the knobs are twice as long as other tires. I have a history of ripping side knods off but this hasn't been an issue with this tire. If you love the regular Maxxis IT you will be very happy with the Dessert IT. Same tire just longer knobs that lasts longer.

SOLID TIRE
Review by Duane from Draper, UT on 6/16/2011
Super tire. Stiff side walls and the knobs are sturdy. They don't chunk off even in hard rocky terrain. Great for loose rocky, sandy terrain. Utah is all desert and I have ridden this tire all over in all kinds of weather and terrain. Hasn't let me down. I recommend this tire!

Real good tire. Handles great in all terrain that I ride, mainly loose rock and sand. I am very satisfied.

Great Tire
Review by Ben from Palo Alto, CA on 11/22/2011
This has a stiff and tall carcas. Perfect for high speed rocky trailing and dual sport. You will hardly get a rim puncture. Traction is excellent and wear is long. It also works great in the slippery woods if you remember to air down. Perfect for those rides that are rocky or unknown for obstacles. I tried trials tires and went back to this one.

Old slow guy
Review by Dean Schwab from Kingman, AZ on 1/18/2012
This tire is well worth the money. What it gives up in brand new traction it make up for in wear. After 5 good rides (approx. 500 miles on a KX 500) when other brands need to be replaced this tire still has good tread remaining and apprears to have several more rides to it. I ride mostly in the high desert lots of rocks and hard packed.

DO NOT BUY!
Review by Mark from Santa Clara, CA on 11/14/2012
Installed a new set of the Maxxis Desert ITs for a 1000 mile trip in Baja. I wanted a tire that would last and had high hopes for this one, based on reviews. After 200 miles (max speeds around 60-65mph), I was missing two center lugs, torn off right down to the case. A third lug went shortly after. Had to finish the trip on a well-used Dunlop I was able to find in a small town, where I left the Maxxis rear (we did not have a support vehicle to carry it). Out of 5 riders on nearly identical KTM 525s and 450s, 3 were running Maxxis Desert IT or regular IT, and EVERY Maxxis rider ended up missing 3 or more lugs on the rear tires. The 2 riders on Bridgestone and Michelin had NO problems, and I had NO problems with my used Dunlop. I contacted Maxxis and they let me know the tire would need to be returned to the retailer to see if it would be covered under warranty. Obviously, I can’t accommodate that requirement, so I’m left to share my story with other riders, and hopefully keep them from a similar experience. Because the same problem happened on two different Maxxis models and three different tires (and the company really couldn’t care less), I will never buy another tire from Maxxis.
