Good tire for the $

I am updating my previous review. Somehow I gave a good verbal review but missed the some of the star rating system which way under-rated the tires. So I have revised the Star system to match what I wrote. After 5000 miles (2000 of which was Death Valley - half roadhalf dirt) along with several rides to and thru the desert I stand by my previous statements.I think on the road people feel the knobs flex with speed (think about it you have many small knobs that you can flex with your fingers etc.) and it does not instill confidence... but really the KLR is kind of straining to hit this limit anyways! Most of this feel is on very twisty back roads at higher speeds. But off road I have climbed hills with ease that I could barely climb with the stock tires! At about 20 psi they feel very good on everything from rocky trails and fire roads to sand washes. I did try riding thro

KLR650 Rider

I have run two sets of these on my KLR650. Fair price for what you get. Does well on muddy trails tracks decent on paved road dry or wet. If you are doing a lot of paved road riding the tires will go bald around 3000 miles. Corners better off road than on doing hard cornering on paved road the tires feel like they are going to roll off the rim but maybe that is just how it feels to me never had it happen. Now I do not buy in sets but do mixing different fronts & rears. May buy a front one for the monsoon season that is rolling up here soon.

Nice choice

Run a Kenda dualsport tire on a 450SX-F riding in the Oregon desert area. Hooks up good and the tread life is great. It is a great buy for the price.

Best tire!

I use the tire for 5050 riding. The knobs are towering tall first 200 miles you can feel it in the corners. The first 50% of the tire probably experienced wear as any other tire would. Once you get to the final 50% of the knobbie the tire seems to last forever and forever even with lots of street riding. I have the tire on a XR650L oversize tank and I weigh 300lbs.I am now down to less than 14th of the knobbie and it just wont die - seriously! The tire does not chunk and holds the dirt and gravel corners very well. It handles the turns on the street (after broken in) right down to the "chicken strips". Great tire - and I buy only from Chaparral - best deal and fast shipping.
Pros: :
  • Excellent Traction

great tire for the $
5
My opinion is based on a new set of these tires on a KLR 650. My history is riding hundreds of hours on a 426 WR with full knobbies or various sport bikes on road. When new these tires are slick be careful for a bit on the highway. They Flex and slip a bit but after 2K + miles in Death Valley and So Cal deserts they do great. They are a very good compromise tire.Aired down to below 20 psi they work well on dirt roads gravel etc. Only the softest sand stops you from moving forward (I would assume same with mud but way better than stock tires!!) With 2K on them they seem to be worn about 30% and the price was right! I run 32 psi street and approx 18-20psi dirt.My only advice is USE TOP QUALITY TUBES! A great tire with a cheap tube is at best... marginal.See my other review for updated star ratings.
