Motoz Mountain Hybrid Rear Tire - Details

The Motoz Mountain Hybrid dirt bike tire incorporates a new concept in off-road tires. By combining the DNA of a trials tire and a serious off-road tire this dual sport tire gives trials like grip while maintaining the bike's handling characteristics. This design concept works on a flexible tread concave and lock system to give increased traction while avoiding punctures at low inflation pressures. The Mountain Hybrid climbs like a trials tire, but handles corners, creek crossings, sand, and rocks like a regular DOT off-road tire. Constructed like a trials tire, but with reinforced sidewalls to allow lower inflation pressure when riding in off-road and mountain conditions.

  • Made from 100% natural rubber
  • Constructed like a trials tire, but with reinforced sidewalls to allow lower inflation pressure when riding in off-road and mountain conditions
  • Dimensions of an off road tire allows the tire to maintain the dirt bike's handling characteristics
  • Flexible tread concave and lock system gives increased traction while avoiding punctures at low inflation pressures
  • Each tread block has deep sipes for extra trails like grip
  • Climbs like a trials tire, but handles corners, creek crossings, sand, and rocks like a regular DOT off-road tire
  • Trials like grip while maintaining the bike's handling characteristics
  • Provides awesome traction in a wide variety of conditions
  • Reversible tread design with great wear life

KTM 450 EXC. Put one of these on the rear last year. Unreal how long it has lasted. I turned it around once. It still has life left in it but starting to get rounding. Only negatives are that you have to run low pressures or it will bounce and you cant lean it as far as a dirt tire.

Would buy again. Long lasting.
Pros: :
  • Long lasting, great traction.
Cons: :
  • Run low pressures ot it will bounce off obstacles. Cant lean it all the way.

Terrible Quality Control

Long time MT43 user and wanted to try something new. I spoon on all my own tires and have never had a problem. Spooned this tire on and the bead snapped rendering it unrideable.

Took it in to Chaparral, best they could do was send it in to Motoz for warranty. I bought another one in the meantime expecting them to honor the warranty which was denied. There is no way you should be able to snap a bead spooning a tire like this on by hand.

Myself and two other friends bought these tires and are noticing a lot of inconsistencies with how the tires seat on the ones we are riding. Obviously these guys have some quality control issues and are not standing behind their product.

I was hoping for better cornering and downhill braking control with this tire over the MT43 but I am not seeing it.

If you want a solid reliable tire stick with the MT43. I won't be buying another Motoz tire ever again.

I have been using trials tires on my Gasgas EC300 for the past few years and love the grip on rocks and roots and the suspension upgrade from running such a big, soft tire, but slick, steep downhills are dangerous and cornering isnt the the best. This tire eliminates most of the shortcomings and still retains the positives. Its HUGE but I never notice any loss of power from it. It actually seemed to give e a bit of a flywheel effect and helped on technical sections. It's 90% as good as a knobby in mud and loam and 80% as good as trials on rocks and roots. I'm running 8 psi and noticed no sidewall roll. One other thing is you can power slide through turns unlike a trials tire that just slides out of control
Pros: :
  • Easy to mount
Cons: :
  • A bit expensive, heavy

Decent All-Round Tire

I put this tire on the rear of a DR-Z400 and use it as a 50/50 dual sport tire. Maybe that's not it's intended purpose, but it works well in this role. Air it up to 25-30psi, and it cruises the highway comfortably without a lot of noise or vibration. It handles pavement cornering similar to other 50/50 dual sport tires, meaning that it's no supermoto tire, but you won't white-knuckle every turn either. At the trailhead, air it down to 8-14psi and there isn't much that can't be conquered. No sand here, but it is acceptable in mud, even the sticky clay. A knobby would be better, but that's to be expected. In the slimy wet rocks, this tire grips and grabs where a knobby would spin. Braking also seems on-par with other 50/50 dual sport tires. Not as good as a knobby, but better than a DOT trials tire. On pavement, braking is a non-issue.

After nearly 1,000 miles, the tire is holding up very well - much better than a DOT knobby tire. There is some rounding of the knobs, but not a lot, and there is no chunking, cracking, or missing knobs. I expect 2,000 - 3,000 miles of mixed riding out of this tire.

This is a big tire, both in size and weight. It's taller and wider than a 120/90, both by about an inch.

A WORD OF CAUTION: This tire takes a long time to break in. Like 250 miles. My first ride on pavement was downright scary because it was so squirmy. I was ready to yank it off right then, but I had to wait for another tire. Luckily, I continued riding it, playing with air pressures, and as the miles added up, the handling improved 100%.
Pros: :
  • Handles pavement well.
  • Durable
Cons: :
  • Long break-in period. Squirmy at first.
  • Big and heavy.
