Good all Around Tire for BMW 1200 GS
5
I am happy with these tires on my BMW 1200 GS. I have run with Anakee 3 and also Anakee Wilds. These provide the best of both in my opinion, good on pavement and when air dropped to 26 psi work fine on the fire roads that I ride in S. Cal. Don't know about tread life yet, I have 300 miles on them with 25 on dirt. These felt as good on dirt as my old Wild's that had about 25% tread left. I was hitting corners in Santa Monica Mountains hard and felt completely confident in grip/cornering. I did notice, at first, the tires fall into turns but got used to that fast.

great tires

replaced my Pilot road 4 with the 705 for better dirt and gravel traction. night and day difference. also the rubber treads make the suspension much softer and comfortable for long rides. I never triple digit my speeds, the cornering on these tires is phenomenal based on their design, i dont scrape knees but these feel smoother in the turns than the pilot roads for my bike, NC700X.
the bad, poor traction in very loose silt and sand, however my pressures were prob too high and Im new to loose loose stuff.
great traction in dirt,
Pros: :
  • Comfort
  • great on large gravel
  • handling is excellent
Cons: :
  • slippery in silt or sand
  • raised my bike by about half inch

Shinko 705 again
5
I am on my third set of Shinko 705's now. I've tried Continental, Michelin, Heidenau, and Metzler and for the money I'm sticking with these. I have had great luck with tread life although I just got a flat after 12,000 miles on the rear. The front is at 23,000 miles and is showing some serious cupping so I'll be swapping that one out this week. These tires have seen the canyonlands of Utah and the mountains of Montana without any issues. I am also a daily commuter and put 20,000-25,000 miles on my R1200GS yearly. Even after the flat they remained stable for about 15 miles of highway riding to get me at least to my exit.
Pros: :
  • tread life
  • smooth ride
  • Durable
  • Value
Cons: :
  • Tread design
  • Performance in sand
  • Heat sink
