Shinko 705 again
5
I am on my third set of Shinko 705's now. I've tried Continental, Michelin, Heidenau, and Metzler and for the money I'm sticking with these. I have had great luck with tread life although I just got a flat after 12,000 miles on the rear. The front is at 23,000 miles and is showing some serious cupping so I'll be swapping that one out this week. These tires have seen the canyonlands of Utah and the mountains of Montana without any issues. I am also a daily commuter and put 20,000-25,000 miles on my R1200GS yearly. Even after the flat they remained stable for about 15 miles of highway riding to get me at least to my exit.
Pros: :
  • Tread life
  • Smooth ride
  • Durable
  • Value
Cons: :
  • Tread design
  • Performance in sand
  • Heat sink

On my 5th Shinko 705,Love them

I ride a 2006 V-Strom 1000 and spend the majority of my time on pavement, but I do take it in the dirt from time to time and I have found this tire to be a very good all-rounder. Good on the pavement with very little noise and good corning stability. On the dirt I have found good traction but I don't take it a lot of narley conditions, mainly just good dirt roads, a little sand here and there and some rocky, rutted roads from time to time. All in all I like them, keep buying them and generally get between 7000 and 8000 from the rear and an astounding 26,257 from the front. A great value.

Tire Split

Usually a good value for the money but this last one I put on split down the right hand tread after 4 months. I still had about 50% tread left. I probably won't be buying any more Shrinko's after this.

Shinko

I have used these Shinko tires for years and have no complaints. Especially since Shinko came out with the radial tires for the bigger bikes (the bias ply front tires tend to separate on big bikes like the 1200 GS.) But then I've had much worse failure with a premium Metzler front tire. I ride aggressive off pavement and on and have found the tread is good for both. Since a lot of the on-road has been around Seattle where rain is the rule that speaks well for wet traction.
Pros: :
  • Traction
