Great tire for Adventure type riding on Super Moto rims.

I was looking to replace my street tires on super moto rims for my Beta 525RS. I have dirt rims and tires already but, they get chewed up pretty quick when I ride with my friends who have adventure bikes. We ride alot of double track dirt and back country twisty roads so, using street tires isn't an option. After going back and forth on 8020 to 5050 type tires, I decided to try the 17" Shinko SR700's. I used the 4.6 (rear) on the front and the 5.1 (rear) on the back. The 1st ride on them was about a 160 miles with about 70 in the dirt. The ride consisted of twisty cement, hard packed dirt, loose rocks, gravel roads, mud and puddles 6" to 24" deep. On the twisties I wasn't too concerned as I'm not overly aggressive. I wasn't pushing it too hard but, when I stopped I noticed there wasn't any chicken strip. (Guess I was riding harder than I thought.) Where I was more concerned about preformance was in the dirt. However, I must say it did much better than I expected in the mud and puddles, the lugs cleaned out well, which meant better traction. Not great but, better than expected. I gave 5's for value, stability and cornering. I only gave it a 4 in tread life as I only have a couple hundred miles on them. However at the price even if I only get 1500 miles out of them is a great tire.
Pros: :
  • felt stable in the corners on cement
  • hard pack dirt
  • gravel roads
  • rocks
Cons: :
  • none

I was looking for a 5050 tire...this is a bit knobby but has a good enough speed rating for the highway. I can't compare it as far as cornering stability etc. as I haven't ridden on a comparable tire and I'm a conservative rider that doesn't push things. But it's done everything I've asked and never bit me. 6000+ miles though it's really worn at that mileage. I'm ordering another. Good value for the $. No problems or complaints at all.

Will the 4.6-18 size of this tire fit a stock rear wheel that is 110/100-18 (tube type)? or should i go with the 130/80-18.
Nick, New Lenox, Il
The 4.6 boarders on the 110/120 sizes, but is not that close to a 130.
