Good Ankle Support. Good for Wide Feet
I went in to Chaparral to buy a $200 pair of GX-1's. Over the course of 4 hours I tried pretty much every boot there. I wear a 2E size 13 running shoe and my left foot does not tolerate anything touching it.
So I need a wider boot. I ended up walking out with a $525 pair of Crossfire 2's mainly because they supported my ankles better than
any other boot and they were wide enough to not irritate my foot.

As a side note the salesman, Keegan, was great. He was patient,
bringing me boot after boot. He offered honest advice based on his experience as a rider. Most importantly, he didn't try to sell me anything. I would have walked out without buying anything if I felt
pressured. Keegan turned a $200 customer into a $525 sale by letting the boots sell themselves. Thanks!

In comparison, the Alpinestar Tech 5, 7, and 8's felt
heavily padded. Like a ski boot. I expect the padding would
compress with use, but I didn't like it. On the positive side, the
buckles on the Alpinestars were the easiest to operate. Sturdy feeling metal buckles.

The Gaerne GX-1 and GX-10's had the most room for wide feet.
Buckles were good, but the boots felt a little sloppy to me, especially around the ankles.

The SIDI Crossfire 2's had enough room in the forefoot/toebox
for me. Not any extra room, but just enough. Boot is not heavily padded. Where these boots stand out above the others for me is
in ankle support. They grip my ankles and make me feel
more secure and confident. I didn't intend to spend $500 on a pair of boots, but in my opinion these are worth it.

I have now used these boots for over a year. As expected
at this price point, they have held up well. I am a Class C desert racer. The boots are still comfortable after 45 miles.
Relatively comfortable to walk around in.

The only gripe I have is that the buckles are stiff (and plastic)
and putting on the boots is somewhat of a process. Lots of
layers and velcro. The GX-10's definitely went on faster and easier.
That being said, I like the way these boots feel when I am riding
and that is what is important to me.

Hope this helps.
Pros: :
  • Best Ankle Support
  • Relatively Wide Forefoot
  • Lightly padded
Cons: :
  • Stiff, plastic buckles
  • Complicated to put on

Money well spent!!
I didn't want to spend this kind of money on a boot. My left calf is huge 22"+ from an old car wreck. With a compression sock the boot will barely go on when it is all adjusted out - I can't quite get the Velcro to reach. I think it's kind of lame to have adjust-ability in the plastic shin but no provision for the leather upper. I don't know how they would do it but... I will have to order extra top straps as they are longer for the middle 2 spots. I am glad I spent the $$ on these boots. They are by far better than my duct tape hillbilly get up that I was using in the past. Money well spent!!
Pros: :
  • great value
